Principal

Ms. Bower began her career in education in the McMinnville School District, serving as a teacher from 1974 through 1991. She served as an assistant principal in the Newberg School District from 1991 through 1993. She was hired by the Salem-Keizer School District in 1993 and served as an assistant principal at North Salem High School until 2000. Her last assignment was with the Willamette Education Service District as principal of William P. Lord High School. Ms. Bower became principal of Sprague High School in the fall of 2005.

Assistant Principals

Ms. Carolyn Hensley-Johnson is one of Sprague's Assistant Principals. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. She then worked as a microbiologist in the Texas Medical Center in Houston for several years before moving to Oregon. Her Masters in Teaching is from Lewis and Clark College in Portland. She taught in the Beaverton School District for 9 years. Ms. Hensley-Johnson taught courses such as General Science, Biology, AP Biology, Science Research, and Botany and was chosen as the Outstanding Biology Teacher in Oregon in 1996. Her administrative work was also completed at Lewis and Clark College. Before coming to Sprague, she served as Assistant Principal at Yamhill-Carlton High School for 5 years and as Principal of Yamhill Grade School for 1 year. In Ms. Hensley-Johnson's

spare time, she enjoys quilting, reading, baking, and traveling.

 

 

Ms. Mary L-Provancha is also one of Sprague's Assistant Principals. Along with Mr. Tomlin, she works with discipline and attendance issues. Ms. Provancha graduated from Gervais High School and attended Western Oregon where she received majors in Physical Education, Spanish, and Bilingual Education. She earned her Interdisciplinary Master's Degree in Physical Education and her Administrative Degree at Portland State University. Before coming to Sprague in 2000, Ms. Provancha taught at Central High School.Ms. Provancha has three amazing children, one son and two daughters! Her husband also works in the education field.

 

 

Mr. Don Tomlin is also one of Sprague's Assistant Principals. He works with Ms. Provancha in the areas of discipline and attendance. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in Portland. After high school, he attended the Oregon College of Education majoring in Math. He also received minors in Science and Physical Education, and a proficiency in Language. Mr. Tomlin has a Master's Degree in Education and completed his Administrative Degree at Portland State University. Before joining the administration at Sprague in 1999, he taught at Lebanon High School for twenty-one years, David Douglas High School for three years, and Marshfield High School for three years. Mr. Tomlin has three wonderful kids and his wife is an elementary school teacher for the Salem-Keizer School District.

 

 

Athletics Director

Mr. Mark Risen is Sprague's Assistant Principal responsible for Athletics and Social Studies. He attended Western Oregon State College where he earned his Bachelors and Masters of Science in Secondary Education and Social Studies. Mr. Risen taught Social Studies for twelve years before attaining his Administrative License at the University of Oregon. He has served as an Athletic Director/Social Studies teacher for the past three years, most recently, at Sheldon High School in Eugene. Mr. Risen has been married for 21 years to his loving wife, Julie. He has two kids, Alyssa, a freshman at Western Oregon University, and Darrell, a high school junior.
