PORTLAND -- After 1,200 games, Sprague came out on top.
The Olympians girls racquetball team captured the national championship Sunday after a five-day competition.
The boys squad finished third.
The competition featured 52 teams from 13 states and saw more than 1,200 matches. It was held mainly at the Multnomah Athletic Club.
Kara Donnithorne and Staci Wood captured the title in No. 1 (highest level) girls doubles.
Donnithorne and Wood defeated Kerry Franklin and Rose Thomson from St. Louis, Mo. in the championship match.
In the semifinals, they defeated Laura Davis and Stephanie Moyle of Beaverton's Southridge High School.
Wood also won first place in No. 3 girls singles. She defeated Hannah Hindman of St. Louis, Mo., in the title match.
Alexa Franklin and Karin Foster placed first in the No. 2 girls doubles.
The top finishers for the Sprague boys were Ben Bowerly and Matt Gillette, who took second place in No. 2 doubles.
Parker Miles was fourth in No. 2 singles.
Ryan Schoonmaker placed third in No. 3 singles.
Sprague is coached by Ryan Edmiston, Bill Edmiston, Dan Goetsch and Stacey Whittenberger.
